“The Hickey Program for Families Affected by AIDS in
La Romana, Dominican Republic”.
The Hickey Family Foundation (HFF) recently funded a 2 year, collaborative initiative with IFAP to monitor the barriers to and effectiveness of several IFAP programs. Under co-investigators Drs. Linda F. Cushman, Debra Kalmuss, and Stephen Nicholas, and project coordinator Ms. Hannah Fortune-Greeley, MPH, HFF funds will be used to: assess the structural and attitudinal barriers to Voluntary Counseling and Testing at Francisco Gonzalvo Hospital (Salud Publica), document the referral process to Complejo Micaeliano for HIV+ women, and explore correlates of adherence with medical regimen among Mother-To-Child-Transmission program patients, their family members, and others receiving anti-retroviral treatment. HFF has also provided a fund for use among IFAP families in need of emergency medical services, food, or transportation to medical/treatment facilities.
HFF is a non-profit, humanitarian and philanthropic charitable trust. Under the direction of Mr. Frank Hickey, the Foundation funds other domestic and international projects aimed at medical rescue of children, medical technology development, and international medical training center development.
The official starting date for the HFF Program in La Romana is April 15, 2005.
